Day Lilies

I visited a place called Daylily Dementia in Plainfield June 26.  A couple of weekends each year when the lilies are in full bloom, the owners, Michelle and Eric Turner, open their property to the public for a sale.  Most plants cost $5-$10 dollars for a 2 fan plant.  I divided mine so that I ended up with 2 plants.  I bought an unusual white variety called Joan Senior.  I am planning an all white garden for the front of my house, so this addition to my white collection will be perfect.  The sale will be repeated next weekend.  The owners will also open their property by appointment the rest of the summer months.  Here is the address:

Michelle likes to use recycle items like this chandelier and window frame to create interesting vistas for her lily collection.

Plainfield Garden Walk

The Friends Of The Library held a benefit garden tour June 18 and 19.  Seven families opened their gardens to the public as a fundraiser for the library.  Each garden was more beautiful than the next. The thing that struck me about each of these gardens was that each of the owners of the gardens were artists creating works of art. The gardeners created breath-taking vistas that lead to another vista and then another. The gardens included carefully tended flowers, trees, shrubs, as well as hardscaping. Many included water features such as fountains, fish ponds, and waterfalls.  Gardening is obviously their passion, not tended out of duty, but love.  I came away inspired.
My favorite flowers: White hydrangeas.

Oasis Diner

The Oasis is a popular Plainfield destination for young and old.  This old fashioned diner serves classic diner favorites such as ice cream, burgers, fries, and shakes.
